Committee on Banking Supervision

The Arab Committee on Banking Supervision was established in 1991 by a decision of the Council of Governors of Arab Central Banks and Monetary Authorities. It comprises heads of banking supervision departments at Arab central banks. The Arab Monetary Fund serves as the Committee’s Technical Secretariat in its capacity as the Technical Secretariat of the Council.

The Committee works to strengthen cooperation and coordination among Arab supervisory authorities and facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise on banking supervision issues and developments, supporting the advancement of supervisory methods and practices across Arab countries.

Objectives

The Committee examines banking supervision issues and developments and prepares working papers and recommendations through its affiliated working group. These papers are submitted to the Council of Governors of Arab Central Banks and Monetary Authorities for adoption as recommendations, taking into account the applicable laws and regulations in each country.

Technical Assistance and Training

The Arab Monetary Fund supports the Committee’s activities by coordinating among relevant authorities, facilitating the exchange of experiences and expertise, and providing training opportunities for banking supervision professionals through its Training and Capacity Building Institute.

In preparing its working papers and recommendations, the Committee draws on international standards and principles, particularly those issued by the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision.
